I joined Da'aro Youth Project initially as a volunteer caseworker in December 2021. Since then my passion about everything we do has grown so much that I have found myself gradually taking on more responsibility, to the point that I became full-time Director of DYP in April 2023. I have a fantastic professional team behind me as well as an amazing group of volunteers and trustees. DYP is also fortunate  to have such a wide range of wonderful funders who share our passion for what we do, and provide us with much-needed funding to keep on going and growing.

​Since coming on board as Youth Service Manager, I have really enjoyed overseeing the services led by my wonderful colleagues that are at the heart of our project. Through our small but growing charity, I’m excited to explore how opportunities can continue to arise for young asylum seekers and refugees who navigate the UK’s hostile’s environment. I am passionate about youth-led initiatives, and storytelling through music, food, and performance! 

Dehab Woldu is one of the founders of DYP together with the community.
Her role is to develop and maintain positive relationships and communication channels with the local and wider community. Create and implement a comprehensive Community Engagement Plan (CEP). Develop strategies to nurture a positive relationship between DYP and wider stakeholders. Identify and create opportunities aligning with DYP's engagement strategy. Manage the rollout and implementation of plans to benefit youth and communities.

I joined Da’aro in October 2023. It has been a privilege working with such a wonderful team in supporting our incredible young survivors. I have worked in casework and advocacy roles for over ten years and I learn something new every day and am consistently humbled by the wonderful young people we work with who show an immense level of maturity, positivity, kindness and resilience in the face of exceptionally difficult circumstances and a deeply hostile political climate. Our team is wholly dedicated to ensuring that young people are empowered to access the support and resources they need and are entitled to. It is a real honour to be part of this work and to challenge injustice with a focus on ensuring all people have the opportunity to thrive.

Since starting as Youth Activities Lead, it has been wonderful to see the transformative impact the brilliant work of our volunteers and staff has had on the lives of our clients. I enjoy the dynamic nature of the role, and I am passionate about ensuring that our clients not only receive essential services but also find a sense of belonging and community within our space.

Our volunteers are the lifeblood of the Da'aro Youth Project. We have our kitchen volunteers whom every week help prepare food in the kitchen for young people to eat.
