Research & Campaigning

An important part of the work of charities is to demonstrate how the challenges faced by
young people within the asylum system are not individual or isolated, but part and parcel of policy and practice decisions which at best fail to fully account for young people’s needs and rights and in many cases are purposefully violent. Advocacy and campaigning work therefore are vitally important to build an evidence base of what is going on and to demonstrate the harms of existing policies and practice. Da’aro Youth Project has developed a strong track record of advocacy and campaigning work. This includes individual advocacy to contest age assessments; overturn unfair asylum application decisions; support family reunifications; support young people who become embroiled in the criminal justice system as a result of intersecting vulnerabilities; and enable young people to access the services and support they are entitled to.  In addition, we take on broader campaigning work to support changes in policy and practice and have gained significant impact and recognition for this work.
